This is all well and good, you might say, but how to remember this, when you are at your lowest and most desperate? How to connect with this when your mind is so exhausted that you cannot leave the house? How to connect with this if you are feeling lower than low and want to give up, or when you are so anxiety-ridden that you cannot make out your own hands, never mind a leaf or two?

For many reasons, many of us tend to sink as the day wears on. Some of us feel it in the morning, but for many years I was prone to feeling quite low in the late afternoons, when the morning optimism had long since drifted away. Often, by midmorning I had quite simply run out of everything that I needed. I was moving from one nervous tic to another and strung out by evening. Living like this was not easy or sustainable.

I was fast losing the will.
